The General Music class at GMS is for any student not enrolled in band or chorus. There are 2 music teachers and we both share the classes. Our curriculum is based on the same concepts, however we use different methods for teaching based on the availablility of materials in our rooms. In music you will learn about Rhythm, Melody, Music History, Current Music, Musicals, and Music Technology. I tell my students that while they probably will not become a world famous musician by attending my class, they will acquire enough knowledge that they can talk intelligently about music and years down the road, feel comfortable enough to encourage and help their own child when they decide to play an instrument.

Rubrics

Group Rhythm Performance Rubric - Students in Grades 6 learn about rhythm. The culmination of this unit is a group composition and performance. This rubric will be used to grade both their composition and their performances.

Individual Piano Performance Rubric - All students in Grades 6, 7 & 8 learn basic piano skills. The culmination of this unit is when students learn, practice and perform some basic songs on the piano. This rubric will be used to grade their performances.
